What is the Yuri!!! On Ice Big Bang?
“A Big Bang (or “Bang” for short) is a specific type of challenge, usually involving long fics and accompanying artwork. This type of challenge is a reprise of the old zine tradition of collaboration between artists and writers for internet fandoms. Most Big Bangs have a similar format: writers sign up to take part in the challenge and begin writing stories. When the early drafts of the stories are available, artists will claim stories they are interested in. Artists then will create fanart to go along with the story. The Yuri!!! On Ice Big Bang 2021 is an open bang focused on the anime and characters of the anime Yuri!!! On Ice.

What kind of content is allowed?
Any content is allowed. Just know that for anything you create, you’re responsible for adequately tagging it. Please keep in mind that you will be working with other people as well. All ships, triggers, and overall ratings must be disclosed! Interested artists need to know what they are signing up for.

What are the minimum requirements?
One fic complete before the hard deadline (5,000 words minimum) and a finished art piece to accompany it.
What kind of art mediums are allowed?
Digital and traditional art are both allowed, as well as mediums like fanvids, edits, carving, cross stitching, etc. In general, we require one complete art piece per work (or more, if you want to make them).
If I’m under 18, can I still take part in the bang?
Yes, it’s open to all ages. We obviously ask you to be honest about whether you’re above 18 or not. NSFW content and access to any NSFW channels is not allowed to minors, and you will be barred from participating if you are not honest about this. Us mods take this very seriously.

It was Ari, who missed big bangs since they joined the fandom pretty late, and Aze who decided to hold one, rather than listen to them moan about it.

I’m just a reader, but I really want to join the Discord server, can I?
Yes! Our Discord is open to everyone. People can always do with moral support or cheerleading!
Do you need any previous completed works to submit during the sign-ups?
Short answer, no! You don’t need any credentials to participate. We are all here to have fun.
I don’t have a Discord account. I wish to communicate solely via email, Twitter, or Tumblr. Can I do that?
No, sorry! All check-ins will take place on Discord, so it’s mandatory to have an account and join the server. Both an account and the app are free!
I don’t think I’ll have enough time to complete my work for this event, even though I thought I would.
Please don’t feel guilty about asking for extensions on check-ins, or even dropping the event. Real life happens. Pinch-hitters are here for a reason!
What about check-ins and completion deadlines?
Throughout the event, we will be making sure that the creation process runs smoothly by using check-ins. These check-ins will be informal and ask about your progress. They will happen via Discord. We will set completion percentages as a general progress guide.
We will have two deadlines for completion. First, we have a soft completion deadline by which we will expect you to have completed your work. That said, life happens. Our second, hard completion deadline will be about a week or two later. Beyond that point, posting will begin!
Can I participate with a sequel to a pre-existing work of mine?
Yes, provided that it can be read as a stand alone, and that it has not been posted previously.
Can I participate with a crossover/OCs?
Yes, provided that the YoI characters are the main focus.
Can I participate with a fic that I have already posted some of?
No, sorry!

How will you be assigning partners?
For artists, we will ask you to submit your favorite summaries, in descending order of preference. The mods will do our best to assign you the summary you like most! Betas will be assigned the same way. Pinch-hitters will be assigned on a first come, first served basis, and will be contacted via Discord of any teams in need of a partner.
I have a beta already, can I have my work read by them instead of one assigned?
Yes, you can! Please remember to mention that on the Google Form.
I want to sign up with a friend as my artist, can I?
Yes! You will both need to sign up and both declare the other as your partner in your Google Form submission.
I have personal issues with the person I’m assigned. What now?
We ask you to try and resolve with them privately. If you would rather not, and wish to be reassigned, then we need you to approach one of the mods. We trust you to be mature and keep things light. Remember, this is a nonprofit fandom event, and we’re just here as a community to celebrate a show we all adore.
Can I contact the mods privately to raise concerns?
Yes, you can. You can do it by sending us an email ([email protected]), DM us on twitter (@yoibang2021) or DM any of us on Discord. If your problem directly concerns one of the mods, we ask you to please reach out to Aze, this event’s admin.

I don’t have an Ao3 account. Can I post solely on social media?
Every fic must be posted to Archive of Our Own, so that we can add it to the event’s collection. (Though you are allowed to post it to other sites in addition to Ao3, if you wish to!) If you need an invitation to join, you can get one directly on the site, or ask us for one. Accompanying art must be embedded into the fic itself, and your artist must be appropriately credited with their name, and a link to their social media at the bare minimum.
What about posting for artists, or posting on social media in general?
Please post your works on Twitter and/or Tumblr! Use the hashtag #YOIBigBang2021 and please mention us in your post so that we can promote your lovely works!
